What to Expect on Your First Visit

Getting proper eye care is critical to your health. Even if you are not experiencing any problems with your eyes, regular exams are important. Our eye doctors will perform a thorough examination to ensure that your eyes are as healthy as they can be. What Should You Expect During Your First Visit?

Your first visit to our office will likely be one of the longest visits you have here. We will need you to fill out some paperwork, much of which you can find in the New Patient section of our website. Having this done before you come in can make things move a little faster. We will take you back to an exam room where you will prepare for your exam. We will also discuss your health history. There are several tests that you may need to do during your initial appointment:

• Vision testing: Our eye doctor will check your vision. This includes how well you can see close up and far away. Other tests regarding your peripheral vision and color perception may be done.
• Eye exam: The doctor will look into the structures of your eye. You may have eye dilation, so be prepared for light sensitivity after the exam. Someone may need to drive you home.
• Glaucoma test: The doctor numbs your eye and uses a special device or a puff of air to check your eye pressure.
• Other testing: People with certain medical conditions might need other tests performed.

If our eye doctor finds an issue with your eyes, we will go over the treatment plan with you. This might include a prescription for glasses or contacts. You may also be given an appointment with a specialist who can better address your eye issues. We want you to fully understand what is going on and what you need to do.
